The project comprises six silkscreen prints on fish skin, set in metal frames between two panes of glass.
The prints layer the ornamental patterns of window grilles installed on ground-floor windows. Here, these patterns lose their utilitarian function and begin to operate as an autonomous visual language, pointing not only and not so much to external control as to internalized constraints formed through constant interaction with the urban environment. On the one hand, they are symbols of fear and the need for enclosure; on the other, they are an attempt to establish control over a vulnerable space.
The work was produced as part of ColLab, a program of the workshops of the Vaults Centre for Artistic Production at GES-2 House of Culture.
